What I Packed In My Hospital Bag

One of the most exciting activities while pregnant was preparing my hospital bag. The thought of my baby arriving soon was thrilling. However, with all my excitement, I did overpack, so in this post I will also include what I didn’t need or use.

What I packed for myself:

  • An extra outfit
  • A robe
  • A bunch of underwear
  • Flip flops
  • Washcloths (for warm compresses)
  • Nursing pads
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Hairbrush
  • Charger
  • Card games
  • Snacks (Jolly Ranchers, pretzels, granola bars, Powerade)

What I packed for my husband:

  • 2 extra outfits
  • Socks and boxers
  • Toothbrush
  • Charger

What I packed for my baby:

  • 2 newborn outfits
  • 1 size 1 outfit
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Bib
  • Hat and mittens
  • Nursing cover
  • Receiving blanket
  • Baby blanket
  • Car seat

A majority of these items went unused. The things I/we didn’t use are:

  • My robe
  • My underwear (I fell IN LOVE with the mesh undies they provide!)
  • My flip flops (I just stayed in my hospital socks)
  • My washcloths (They did an episiotomy instead of my warm compresses)
  • Card games (I wound up in too much pain to even do anything)
  • The entire diaper bag (My baby wound up staying in the NICU an extra day)

During my hospital stay I just lounged in the hospital gown, so unless you are disgusted by them, I recommend not packing a bunch of clothing for yourself. Also, I highly suggest you check with where you plan to deliver what exactly they provide for you and baby. Stay tuned for my next post where I’ll talk about what mine provided!
