Sorry, Dad… I’m spilling the beans (pun intended). This is a dish that my dad taught me and it’s one of my favorite dishes. It’s super quick and easy to make! The great thing is… this recipe isn’t one that you need to follow exact ingredients or measurements (makes it all the more easier)!
All you need are 5 types of beans and ground beef. I use red kidney beans, black beans, pink beans, pinto beans, and black eyed peas. Depending on how much meat I want, I use 1/2 to 1 pound ground beef.
To start, put your beans (and the liquid) into a pot. Add the seasonings you would like. I use Adobo All Purpose seasoning and a little bit of cayenne powder. Put the heat on medium. Then, cook the ground beef in a pan. Add your desired seasonings to the meat while there is still some pink left. Once the beef is thoroughly cooked, add it to the beans. Turn the heat to high and cook for an additional minute or two. That’s all it takes! This makes a lot too; about 6-8 servings. One pot of this lasts my husband and I for 2 to 3 days.
This is my go-to dish when I don’t have much time to cook. It’s perfect for new parents who can’t or don’t want to do a lot of cooking!
