5 Gifts to Give Instead of Baby Clothes

Yes, I know. Baby clothes are so adorable and it’s hard to control yourself. However, baby needs things other than just clothes! In order to help some mamas out and to give inspiration on what to gift a mama besides clothes, here are a list of important items that nobody thinks about!

  1. D and C batteries. Let me bloody tell you how much money we spend on these darn things. We use her bouncer, swing, and sound machine so much that the batteries die almost weekly! Either buy a bunch of regular ones, or if you have the money to, buy the poor mama rechargeable batteries!
  2. Diaper trash can. I swear. I thought these were unnecessary, but boy was I wrong. I find diapers all over the place because of it. I just bought a $1 tiny can from Family Dollar to help keep them in one spot.
  3. Sleep sacks and swaddles. Since blankets are a big no no in the crib, playpen, or where ever baby sleeps, get mama a couple of these suckers to help keep baby comfortable at bed time!
  4. Stain remover. If you care anything about the baby’s cute clothes… for the love help a mama out! I prefer OxiClean stain remover, as it removes the stains almost instantly!
  5. Freezer meals. Prepare a few meals that all mama has to do is thaw and pop in the oven! Pasta dishes like lasagna are a great option for this! There’s times where I barely eat because I’m just not able to cook, so this would be extremely helpful.

As great as getting a bunch of cute baby clothes is, sometimes it’s nice to get other necessities. I hope this helps you with practical and useful gift ideas for an expecting or new mama!

Why Pregnancy Pranks Are NOT Okay!

Screen Shot 2017-07-27 at 8.23.10 PM

I’m sure many of y’all have or have thought about pulling this one. Wouldn’t it be so funny to see everyone’s reaction?? No. It wouldn’t. Let me explain why.

Firstly, if your significant other is really excited for kids and really wants a baby, that would be so cruel and mean to get their hopes up. It’s almost like getting a false pregnancy test yourself. You’d get so excited to see that positive mark, only to be in tears when you get your first ultrasound showing absolutely nothing. Honestly, I was going to pull this prank until I thought about how badly my hubby wanted a baby. It made me feel TERRIBLE for even thinking of doing it!

Secondly, there are SO many women out there who can’t physically have kids. Pulling such a prank is just distasteful and disrespectful to those women. Imagine not being able to conceive and scrolling through Facebook. Up pops a video of a woman pranking her family with a fake pregnancy. Suddenly you’re in tears because of the harsh reality of infertility and women making a mockery of such a beautiful part of life.

Thirdly, it honestly would just make the REAL moment not as amazing. They will have that bad taste in their mouth and be hesitant to believe you. Don’t ruin that moment for yourself! Don’t cause trust issues with your loved ones. Think of something more creative and FUN to prank them with!

So… put those binkies (that’s how I was going to do it) and pregnancy tests away for when you really need them. Don’t make a mockery of such a beautiful, miraculous event!

Let’s Clean: Kitchen

Day 2: Tuesday… Kitchen Day!

I swear this day was looooong overdue.

I started by picking up and throwing away all the trash, collecting all our mail and putting it in our mail drawer, and just cleaning up all the random clutter.

Then I did the dishes with Sun with oxygen cleaning action apple orchard scent dish soap ($1 from Family Dollar… talk about a WIN!) and sat them in the drying rack.

While the dishes were drying, I cleaned the coffee station and the kitchen table. I first used up&up lemon scent disinfecting wipes, then cleaned the tables with Lysol Lemon Breeze scent All Purpose Cleaner (if you can’t tell.. I love lemon cleaners).

Next I put the dishes away and cleaned the counter. I used the Lysol cleaner for this. I then went in with a bit of Clorox Regular bleach because… well I’m a germaphobe.

I quickly cleaned up the stovetop with some Lysol. I did this not too long ago, so it was just a touch up.

Then I spent a good while cleaning the cabinets. I took everything out and cleaned the cabinets with Lysol and a little bit of bleach. Then I reorganized the food and dishes.

I deep cleaned the fridge and freezer.. I took the shelves and drawers out and washed them in the bathtub using my Sun dish soap. Then I cleaned them with Lysol and yes… some bleach. I wiped the inside of the fridge down with the disinfecting wipes and then used Lysol. Once I put the fridge back together, I took the freezer contents out and did the same thing.

Finally I swept and mopped the floor with my Swiffer WetJet.

Stayed tuned Monday for Day 3 of my cleaning series!

Blog Construction

Hello! I hope you are having a fantastic day. I just wanted to post a little update quick to let everyone know there will not be posts this Monday and Thursday. I am taking this week to fix up my blog a bit and get it set up a little better. See you next week! ❤︎

Our Eid Adventure!

I’d like to wish everyone Eid Mubarak! Apologies for this being a day late, but we were EXHAUSTED after our Eid celebrations!

As promised, I’m going to share our day and show pictures from our Eid celebrations.

First, we went to Eid Prayer in Prospect Park. It was SO hot, and Jannah was screaming through the whole prayer, but alhamdulillah I’m glad to have stuck through and prayed. That was also my first group prayer since she was born.

The area is mainly Jewish, so a few people came with signs to show support!

Afterwards, we went to IHOP for breakfast. Wais had a chicken sandwich and fries with lemonade. I had their new cupcake pancakes (which were DELICIOUS.. man I wish this was sponsored), turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, and hash browns (I’m addicted to their hash browns) with lemonade too.

Next we headed to the Bronx Zoo! We purchased full experience tickets, so we could enjoy features like the 4D theater, butterfly garden, the Asia monorail, and other exhibits. Jannah LOVES the zoo! While there, we also ate a packed lunch (I described in my previous post, go check it out!).

After a loooooong day at the zoo (our bodies were sooo sore from all the walking.. according to Wais’ phone, we walked 9 miles!), we went out for dinner at LongHorn Steakhouse. We both got steaks, fries, and broccoli. He got a coke and I got strawberry lemonade. Apologies I forgot to take a picture of it, but we were exhausted and starving.

We finally went home. I bathed Jannah and got her to bed, then me and Wais shortly followed. I hope y’all had a wonderful Eid and would love to hear about what you and your family did!
